Kick-start your photography skills at Auckland Zoo

We take a look at the Auckland Zoo–hosted photography tutorials, starting with the beginners workshop.

30 May 2016

If you live in, or have visited Auckland, you’re more than likely to have spent some time exploring Auckland Zoo. You probably had your camera in hand to document your trip, but what you may not have realized is that you can turn your recreational trip to the zoo into an educational photography experience.

The Auckland Zoo hosts a range of guided photography tutorials around the zoo, lead by photography tutors who will be able to help you in capturing striking moments that you may stumble across during your day at the zoo — you’ll come away with a memory card filled with beautiful photographs of plants and wildlife from all over the globe.

The beginners workshop sees you spend a day at the zoo with two photography tutors. You just need to bring along your camera (a DSLR is recommended), a fully charged battery, and your camera manual, and the tutors will teach you how to use your gear like a professional.

There are two beginners workshops coming up in June 2016 for you to get involved in: Saturday, June 11 (9.30am–3pm) and Saturday, June 25 (9.30am–3pm). But you’ve got to act quick as there is a maximum of 14 people per workshop (and a minimum age requirement of 16).

The workshop comes to a total of $195 and this will include your zoo admission, morning tea, as well as course notes for you to take home and ponder. Also, if you attend the beginners workshop and want to continue to fine-tune your skills, you’ll get a 20-per-cent discount off the intermediate photography workshop or individual tuition.
