The New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) has announced the 2020 Nikon Iris Professional Photography Awards will still go ahead, albeit in an online form, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent need to cancel its attached photography conference, ExposurePro.

The awards are open to professional photographers, both local and international, along with tertiary-level students in photography and creative arts courses, and registration will run from 22 June to 2 August.

Sarah McGregor, executive director for the NZIPP, says the awards are an excellent opportunity for photographers to push creative boundaries, develop expertise, gain professional recognition, and see the country’s top photographic talent.

“With strong sponsorship support and media interest, the Nikon Iris Awards are also an excellent opportunity for professional photographers to leverage from as part of their business marketing,” she added.

As well as switching to an online format — goodbye printing and delivery costs — the programme will feature a new Expressive category and awards for the highest scoring print in each category. The limit on the number of entries that can be submitted has also been removed.

Judging will take place 22–28 August and will be live streamed for the public. The awards presentation will be held on 7 September and will also be streamed online.
