It’s always wonderful to hear about the increasing opportunities for up and coming photographers and film-makers in terms of education and support, and hearing the news that SAE Institute in Auckland is now running a new film degree was thrilling.

SAE Institute in Auckland is part of a leading global creative media education provider with over 50 campuses worldwide. Auckland’s campus is well known for its audio courses, but is less known for film.

It has been running a Film Diploma since 2006, and has recently been granted accreditation by NZQA to run a new film degree, a Bachelor of Film Arts. With a stronger push into film, a new manager with a background in film education has joined the SAE team — Dr Suzette Major. She has a 10-year history of being a senior lecturer in Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato, she was the manager at MAINZ, and headed the idea school at EIT in Hawke’s Bay.

“I’m thrilled to be at SAE. It’s the perfect role that brings together my love of music and film, with my expertise in arts management and creative media industries. The team are fantastic and the students are excited to be here — it makes coming to work every day an utter pleasure,” Major says.
